Age of Endarkment?
Freedom of thought, freedom of choice. Treasures that historically have been earned in a hard way.
Philosophy of Enlightenment led to the series of revolutions. The most sad part of any revolution is that it costs lives. Few centuries ago people got so inspired by the idea that they can think and take decisions on their own, that they would gather together to fight in order to get rights for freedom of thought and speech, among other rights.
Sapere Aude - dare to use your own reason (one of the possible and common translations). This motto became associated with the Age of Enlightenment.
In chess, just by simple act of beginning the game, we get this privilege of thinking on our own and acting according to our own understanding - the way to see, to check and improve one's thinking patterns. Consequently, it means the chance to elevate and to gain more freedom.
Nevertheless, outsourcing of one's own brain became a modern trend. Usually it's called cheating.
It's very painful to observe. It's very painful to think about all the efforts previous generations put into the fight for freedom of thought, all of the lives sacrificed in the name for it, and see that nowadays a win by the means of outsourcing one's brain to the computer is considered as win. And it's not only in chess. According to the statistics the same trend is in vogue in the field of education.
Age of Endarkment - outsource your brain, get fast results.
